Mara is a character appearing in the Savage Sword of Conan, and was a childhood friend of Conan.
Biographical sketch[]
Mara is a Cimmerian, a barbarian from the far north. Daughter of Hafgar of the Hillmen, She grew up in the same village as Conan, and they were good friends as children. When Conan finally left his village he left his love for her behind, and four years later came back for her, only to find that she had been captured by marauding Vanir. The Vanir's chief tried to force her to marry him, and instead of submit to him she stabbed herself. Conan was too late to save her, and she died in his arms.

Mara showed courage and strength when she killed herself rather than marry her captor. As she was a Cimmerian woman, it is likely that she had been trained as a warrior.
