Khitai is a country of the Hyborian Age.

An ancient empire, stronghold of the world’s greatest wizards and masters of the eastern world, Khitai has a powerful army with a sound leadership based in Paikang, Shu-Chen, and Ruo-Chen. Khitai is forever at war against Kambuja in the south, whose god-kings vie with them for supremacy in the arcane mysteries of the Scarlet Circle.

Geography[]

Khitai is the land east of Hyrkania, with the cities Paikang, Rou-Gen, Shaulum, and Shu-Chen. The Swamps of the Dead are also in Khitai along with the Great Wall of Khitai, which, at least partially, separates Khitai from Kusan and Hyrkania.

Khitai has jungles, where the natives and grey apes live, and the lethal black lotus grows.[1] We have very little in this section just yet. You can help Conan Wiki by adding something.

History and politics[]

For a while, at least, the inhabitants of Khitai worshipped the beings from Yag as gods. It was from Khitai where the evil sorcerer Yara encountered Yag-Kosha and enslaved him.[1] In ancient times, Khitai was occupied by the conquerors from a mysterious continent in the eastern ocean (perhaps Mu, mentioned in the Kull story "By This Axe, I Rule!"). Following the Cataclysm, many of thesurviving Lemurians were enslaved by this empire. After thousands of years, these Lemurian slaves, and perhaps the gentle Khitanians, were able to overthrow this evil empire. Likely Vendhya was somehow involved in their rebellion. The remnants of this master-race fled west, conquering the land of the giant-kings and founding Stygia.

Population and culture[]

The people of Khitai are said to be yellow-skinned. They worship Yun and his priests dwell in the jungles. The Khitan populace speaks Mandeer in the north and Min in the south.[1]

Descriptions of its people and culture links them to Asian cultures. Relevant place names are generically Asian-sounding (Paikang, Rou-Gen, Shaulum, and Shu-Chen). Like China, Khitai has a Great Wall. Mandeer and Min are also analogous to Mandarin and Min Chinese respectively.

As the people of Hyrkania became the Mongols, Huns, Tatars, and Turks, the country east of it therefore would likely become China, Japan, and Korea.
