History: (Savage Sword of Conan#41) - Juma was born in Kush. Infant taken from mother, gladiator (Savage Sword of Conan#59) - Slave raiders from Shem stole Juma as a child from his mother's arms. He worked for a time as a field hand on a Shemite farm. When his muscles began to develop and he was deemed a threat, he was sold as a gladiator to the arenas of Argos. Eventually winning his freedom, he drifted east to Turan, where he joined King Yildiz's mercenaries. Later, he formed his own kingdom on the Black Coast.

- The characters Bayu and the Conan the Adventurer (animated series) version of Zula share some similarities with Juma.
